What are Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players can team up with four trainers to take on powerful Tera Pokemon in Raid Battles. These battles will showcase Pokemon with unique and rare Tera Type combinations.

According to the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet blog, the Tera Raid crystals associated with these occurrences may appear ordinary at first sight, but they possess an enigmatic aura surrounding them.

You’ll encounter plenty of Tera Raid Crystals across Paldea.

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players will encounter two different types of Tera Raid Battles. The first type, known as Standard Tera Raid Battles, can be identified by ordinary crystals found in the game’s locations. On the other hand, the presence of Black Tera Raid crystals signifies an exceptionally strong Pokemon. These black crystals indicate that the Pokemon possesses unique moves and Abilities, making the battle more challenging but also offering greater rewards.

Please note that during each event, you can only capture one Black Crystal Tera Raid Pokemon. Moreover, only players who have accomplished all three main story paths and The Way Home bonus quest will have access to the Black Crystal Tera Raids.
