What is Warzone 2’s DMZ mode?

In Warzone 2, the DMZ serves as an exhilarating game mode inspired by Escape from Tarkov. Players enter this mode to engage in intense battles against both human opponents and AI enemies while striving to secure valuable loot before extraction.

As per the Call of Duty blog, DMZ is an immersive extraction mode that offers an expansive open-world experience. In this mode, Operator squads are given the freedom to undertake faction-specific missions, pursue optional side objectives, confront enemy Operators or AI combatants, and scavenge for valuable items, all while battling to survive and secure a safe exit.

Although DMZ is primarily a trio-based mode, you do have the choice to play it solo or as a duo by turning off squad fill. Nevertheless, it is advisable to have a team accompanying you to ensure your safety. Failing the mission and permanently losing any nonpermanent items can occur if you die or run out of time.

In the DMZ, there exist three factions: the Legion, White Lotus, and Black Mous. Initially, players will begin their journey with the Legion as their chosen faction. However, the remaining two factions, White Lotus and Black Mous, can be accessed and unlocked upon successful completion of specific missions assigned by each faction.

This is a summary of each faction:

Legion

Legion, being the initial faction, offers you the opportunity to undertake missions and familiarize yourself with DMZ. They serve as your gateway into this world. As the starting faction, their primary focus is on recruiting numerous contractors, while also aggressively seeking knowledge about Al Mazrah.

White Lotus

After dedicating a significant amount of time to serving with Legion and working in the DMZ, you will have the opportunity to join White Lotus. By becoming a member of White Lotus, you will gain valuable knowledge and increase your earnings, as they have established themselves as seasoned players in the DMZ zone.

Black Mous

Once you have adequately served Legion and White Lotus, the opportune moment will arise for you to encounter Black Mous. This clandestine group possesses cutting-edge technology and extraordinary capabilities, granting you a significant advantage in your Al Mazrah missions.

Warzone 2 DMZ looting, weapons & economy

In the DMZ game, players possess insured weapons that are temporarily disabled upon death, requiring a cooldown time before they can be used again. Moreover, players are able to acquire extra insured weapon slots by leveling up with Factions.

In the event that a player exhausts all their insured weapons, they are required to utilize a contraband weapon, which, if lost during a match, will be permanently gone. By enhancing the cooldown duration, players can expedite the retrieval of Extracted Cash and valuable items associated with these slots.

The new Backpack looting system allows players to gather intel and contraband that are distinct from their Loadout items. During DMZ, players will face the challenge of determining which items to include in their backpack and which ones to abandon prior to extraction.

According to the developers, players will be allowed to carry the following equipment in their Loadout.

  • There are two weapons equipped with a complete supply of ammunition.
  • Two pieces of Equipment
  • Field Upgrade and Killstreak
  • Plate armor and a protective gas mask

You can utilize cash and other resources to buy goods and essential items from the Shops, which can provide valuable assistance.

Warzone 2 DMZ Contracts & Activities

Contracts

What activities are available in the DMZ? Working for the three factions entails completing Contracts on the go, similar to how you would accept and strive to finish them in Warzone.

Here is the list of Contracts that you should consider accepting during the mid-game:

  • Retrieve a valuable cargo by utilizing any available method for delivery or shipment.
  • Explosive Mission: Eliminate two supply sites by detonating bombs.
  • Elimination (Crosshair): Neutralize a designated enemy AI target provided by the game or verify their demise if eliminated by alternative methods.
  • Capture a hostage, restrain them with handcuffs, and safely guide them towards the extraction zone.
  • Target (Skull): This will be a challenging mission as you must locate and eliminate a rival team in the lobby that is outperforming all others.
  • Rewritten: Secure Intel/Geiger Search (Magnifying Glass): Utilize a magnifying glass to locate valuable information and transmit it to a specified radio tower. Alternatively, employ a Geiger Counter to acquire Uranium rods. The outcome of the given situation depends on random chance.

Activities

As you venture through Al Mazrah, you will encounter a variety of events that have the potential to transform the surroundings of your current expedition.

Take a look at the compilation of potential incidents one might encounter in the DMZ.

  • Discover hidden caches filled with valuable items and resources by locating valuable intel scattered throughout Al Mazrah.
  • Radiation poses significant risks to your exploration; however, these risks can be mitigated by utilizing the Iodine Pills Field Upgrade.
  • Safes: Although opening one can be noisy, it is definitely a rewarding experience. It’s a genuine risk-and-reward endeavor that promises generous rewards, yet also draws the attention of enemy soldiers.
  • SAM Sites: Make your way to a SAM Site, activate the turrets, and witness a cargo crate descending onto the battlefield, ready for you to seize or contend for with nearby adversaries.
  • Sandstorms can occur randomly and have a significant impact on visibility, as well as your chances of survival. It is crucial to evacuate the area promptly if a sandstorm arises.
  • Strongholds, similar to Warzone 2, will be present in DMZ. These areas will be guarded by AI and have a significant number of hostile forces. Defeat them to secure valuable loot rewards.
  • UAV Towers provide crucial information on AI and Operator locations, just like any regular UAV would if you manage to find one.

Warzone 2 DMZ map & AI

The DMZ mode is scheduled to occur on the Al Mazrah map in Warzone 2, where AI opponents will hold control over significant portions of the map. These non-playable characters will establish their presence in Strongholds, posing a challenge that must be overcome in order to acquire the valuable loot.

According to Infinity Ward, players will now have the choice to select missions and objectives in Al Mazrah during a DMZ match. Additionally, there will be a range of activities available in the game world.

Rather than descending from the sky like in Warzone, you will be stationed at a predetermined spot on the map and your objectives are likely to differ from those of other players in the game.

At present, the game mode commences with the Al Mazrah map; however, Infinity Ward has provided subtle indications of incorporating additional DMZ maps into Warzone 2 in the future.

Warzone 2 DMZ rewards

Warzone 2’s DMZ mode offers a wide range of cosmetic items as rewards. These include Calling Cards, Operator Skins, and Contraband Weapon Blueprints. As an added bonus, players have the opportunity to unlock the highly coveted M13B Assault Rifle as the ultimate reward.

These are all the rewards available in the DMZ.

  • Double XP Tokens
  • Calling Cards
  • Weapon Charms
  • Operator skins
  • Weapon Blueprints
  • “Other cosmetics”
  • M13B Assault Rifle

According to the Season 1 roadmap, the M13B can be obtained either through a “Store Bundle” or by completing a “Weapon Unlock Challenge.”

Infinity Ward announced in their Warzone 2 launch blog that by playing DMZ, you can bypass the tedious process of unlocking weapons. However, it is still uncertain whether this exemption applies to the challenge for the M13B.
